Person 3- Feedback

Q1. What are some of the conventions you expect from an adventure/spy film?

Time

Time management was not our strongest point as a group overall. We estimated at planning sessions that it would take us 2 to 3 weeks to finish filming completely...this was far from how long it actually took us. Filming overall took a few months as we encountered many altercations that were either our fault or factors that we couldn't control such as the weather. Due to us filming in a park, dog walkers and people from the general public would often interfere in our filming with them walking in the background or walking through our set up of cameras. Some of them even stopped and asked us questions about what we were doing which then held us up, and because we were filming during the winter season, we only had a small time frame of natural light we were able to use. Other altercations included us not charging up our cameras which meant we couldn't film at all or not having all our resources such as our story board. In the end we managed to complete our filming with plenty of time to finish editing.

Media Trip

Near the start of our film opening process, we were invited to an event at the BFI where we would be involved with interactive activities and have q&a sessions with special guests.

Preparation

In order to start preparing for our evaluations and reflecting back on our work, its useful to look at feedback we got on camera of people who viewed our opening at the showcase, this will be useful information to complete our analysis.

Sound

Our whole opening consists of non diegetic sound as we wanted it to be mainly focused on our music being able to create tension and it influenced a lot of our scenes during our planning stage as we based a few around the type of sound we knew we were going to have. In the scene where our character gets a call, we had to foil diegetic sound on top in order for it to be emphasised as you couldn't hear the voicemail message if we directly filmed it with the camera. We also had to foil the conversation onto our scene as you also couldn't hear what he other person was saying it the phone to our characters ear.

Saturation

While editing, we decided to tone down the saturation on certain scenes we shot as they were too bright for the mood we were going for. We wanted to let the audience know straight away that this wasn't happy movie and that the dimly lit scenes were there to foreshadow the mysterious events that were forthcoming. Due to it being in a field, we felt that it being not so bright, also added to the atmosphere we were trying to create.

Certificate

If we was to make our film opening into a full length movie, I would give it a 15 certificate as there would be no sexual scenes, but it will include violence, swearing and some scenes viewers may find distressing. I think certificate 15 is appropriate as they are old enough to deal with an action movie like this one but younger people could find it 'scary' in some places.
The majority of our audience said that the opening of our film made them feel confused and left them not knowing what was gonna happen next. This was what we were hoping for and although it might have annoyed people, our goal was achieved. This ultimately makes people want to watch on which if this was a real film, would be a producers main goal.

Costume

For our characters outfit, we kept it quite casual looking as she is of a young age. Due to the storyline being of her running from the unknown, we made it look like she was just going about her daily life or has just thrown on items of clothing in order to get away. At the start of this whole process, getting our actress to look the same for every filming day was hard and required us to re film some scenes or only be limited to certain ones we could film.

180 Degree Rule

First starting out media course, we had to film a prelim that had a very strict rule that we could not break, that being the 180 degree rule. Although it was not a filming  technique we had originally planned, it was a well thought out decision we made as a group in order to show that the attacker also had a viewpoint and we was able to introduce a new character. For this reason it was necessary to break the 180 degree rule.

Feedback

While showcasing our opening we got given back feedback sheets from the audience, here are the results.

Passengers

When thinking back to films I've seen, the one that always seems to come to mind is the film Passengers (2016).

Actors- Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen

Budget- $110 million Box Office- $299.5 million

Released- December 14th 2016

Plot

The starship Avalon is transporting 5,000 colonists in hibernation pods (the ship's crew are also in hibernation) to the planet Homestead II, a journey taking 120 years. Thirty years into its journey, the ship hits an asteroid while traversing an asteroid belt, which causes a malfunction. The malfunction awakens one passenger, mechanical engineer Jim Preston, 90 years too early.
After a year of isolation, with no company except Arthur, an android bartender, Jim grows despondent and contemplates suicide. One day he notices Aurora Lane  in her pod. Her video profile reveals she is a writer with a humorous personality. After struggling with the morality of manually reviving Aurora for companionship, he awakens her, claiming her pod also must have malfunctioned. Jim makes Arthur promise not to tell Aurora why she really woke up. Aurora, devastated that she will grow old and die before the ship reaches Homestead II, attempts a fruitless effort at re-entering hibernation, just as Jim tried. Eventually, she accepts her situation and begins writing a book about her experiences. Jim and Aurora grow closer. The story then continues to show their relationship and the altercations that they have to go through in order to survive on the ship with no help from the crew.
